MAINTAINING YOUR JEWELRY

Keeping jewelry clean makes sure that it stays beautiful and keeps it's original shine. It's important to know what you can do to make them look like they're brand new. Here is what you can do, and how to do it.
GOLD AND SILVER JEWELRY
Jewelry made from silver or gold can be easily cleaned by using washing up liquid. Put a little on a soft toothbrush and hold it under warm water. Then carefully brush your jewelry and dry it of with a soft towel. This will remove dust, dullness and give it it's old shine back.
JEWELRY WITH DIAMONDS
Jewelry with diamonds are cleaned the same way you would clean gold and silver jewelry. The only thing that is different is the diamond it has and this requires a more delicate approach. Use some washing up liquid on a soft toothbrush and hold it under warm water. very carefully brush it all clean and make sure to clean the edges and corners. It is a good idea to use a bowl so that, should the diamond fall out, you don't lose it. You can always see if the diamond is loose or not first. We also recommend besides cleaning your jewelry, that you let a juweller or goldsmith check if all gemstones are still safely in your jewelry to make sure that you don't lose them.
JEWELRY WITH COLOR STONES
Jewelry with color stones require delicate measures to make sure nothing happens to them. Many colored gemstones can change color due to warmth or uv-light so you have to make sure this doesn't happen. Use some washing up liquid on a soft toothbrush and hold this under lukewarm to cold water. Do not use hot water to make sure nothing happens to the color of your gemstone. It is a good idea to use a bowl underneath cleaning so that you catch the gemstone should it fall out. You can always see if the gemstone is still safely secured before cleaning. We also recommend besides cleaning jewelry, that you let a juweller or goldsmith check if all your gemstones are still safely in your jewelry to make sure that you don't lose them.
PEARLS
Pearls require a different and delicate approach when it comes to cleaning them. Damages can happen to pearls easier than gemstones so be careful. Use lukewarm to cold water and a soft towel to carefuly rub your pearls clean. Let your pearls dry by air or carefully fold a soft towel around them, do not rub them dry. This way your pearls will look as new without damaging them.
STORING YOUR JEWELRY
Wearing jewelry is what jewelry is for and you can never keep it out of harms way. But storing jewelry in a safe place can keep this as little as possible. Storing jewelry is a jewelrybox is the best thing to do. Seperate compartments with a soft interior make sure your pieces don't scratch or bump into eachother, it also keeps dust out. Necklaces can be hung seperately, they will catch some dust but cleaning this can be done easily and does not damage your jewelry fast.
A few tips on how to take care of your jewelry:
- Sleeping, working, practising sports and taking a shower with your jewelry can damage it, try to take them off before you practise any of these activities.
- Use washing up liquid, not strong chemicals. Chemicals will damage and corrode your jewelry.
- Do not use hairspray or parfum on jewelry, these can affect your the metals.
- To avoid knots in necklaces and bracelets, store them with their locks closed. This will make it harder to form knots.
